Opened by Dr. G. Ghirardi in 1964, it covers about 10,000 square meters. Ghirardi, thanks to the mild climate, was able to introduce many species from China, South America and South Africa. In 1991 it was donated to the University of Milan and is managed by the Department of Biology. Plants of various origins, chosen essentially for their medicinal interest, are set there.
